The City asked for this subject

Dear Mayor Brown, Councilmembers, Plan Commissioners, and State Legislators, State law gives Spokane until the end of 2026 to finish its 20-year growth plan. The City released the draft map and updated plan chapters on August 7 and announced on September 1 that comments are due October 2, 2026, at 5pm. That leaves less than two months from release to review the map and plan chapters. The Spokane Complex fires destroyed 833 homes and are expected to cause more than $1 billion in damage. People recovering from the fires should still have a chance to help shape Spokane's 20-year plan. I ask Mayor Brown, the City Council, and the Plan Commission to support extending the October 2 comment deadline by six months. I ask Spokane's state legislators to take the legislative action needed to grant that extension. The City should keep public comments open throughout the extension. Thank you for your time.
