Spokane needs green spaces that aren't just parks. Urban areas need connected green spaces within urban areas to allow for all manner of animals from birds, insects and mammals to safely move through our city and into the environs beyond. People living in the city needs green spaces they can walk through. It is important for our mental health. Impervious spaces need to be minimized to protect our aquifer and our water quality from run off. Maintaining large canopy trees can assist with this goal as well as provide the necessary habitat for species living in our urban area or migrating through.
Eliminating environmental procedures to fast track urban growth initiatives is short sided and not in the interest of Spokane's long-term livability for all of its residents - people and animal.
