Regarding the City's draft Environmental Impact Statement I would like to come out in favor of Alternative 3. Alternative 3 supports Higher density primarily focused in the city center. This option is the best and strongest option from a climate and land-use perspective.
I support this option because it:
- Most strongly supports public transit use, increasing ridership and reducing vehicle miles traveled
- Slows the growth rate of CO2 emissions and other vehicle-related pollutants
- Uses land more efficiently and reduces pressure for sprawl and deforestation
- Encourages redevelopment of downtown parking lots into productive uses, including housing, rather than reinforcing heat-island conditions
- Employs the most efficient water use by reducing the demand for large lot sizes per household
