Greetings. As a resident of Spokane, I value the quality of life in the city, including the natural diversity of the area, even as we struggle to provide more housing (especially low-income housing). And I am a citizen concerned about, and involved in matters trying to address, global warming and especially local urban heat. The need to increase housing inevitably runs into the concern about urban heat, as housing is considered, and development may result in the decrease of the urban tree canopy.
Concerning the draft of the EIS, I urge the city to consider approaches that do not reduce the urban tree canopy, including addressing development that might result in old-age trees being cut down.
