To whom it my concern, I am a resident of Spokane for over 30 years. The city of Spokane is blessed with many areas where residents can easily access a nature experience.
I urge The City of Spokane do all it can to protect these areas for the health of our city.
1 Please support a Tree and Natural Land Inventory. Trees supply cooling for our city and thus is especially important as our summers become increasingly hotter. Spokane has many pockets of Nature that improve the quality of living by being here. These should be inventoried.
2 Please support a Critical Areas Ordinance to protect natural areas. We have many special areas that provide renewal for our states of mind and habitat for other creatures
3 Oppose the blanket Environmental Review exemption in order to protect critical areas such as wetlands, forests, wildlife habitat and riparian areas in neighborhoods. Remember the phrase Near Nature, Near Perfect.
4 Support the Climate Resilience and Sustainability Board’s recommended Policy Land Use & Zoning 2-4
I am a retired Registered Nurse who worked in the field of Mental Health with children and adolescents. Contact with nature is important for a healthy mental state. The growing field of Ecospychology addresses this.
Besides having natural areas provide a place for renewal for humans it is also important in these times of impending increased environmental destruction to mantain natural areas for their value to the health of other species and our planet.
Sincerely,
Hal Rowe
