Spokane Transit Authority (STA) appreciates the work of City of Spokane staff in developing the draft environmental impact statement for PlanSpokane 2046, the periodic update to the City's comprehensive plan.
The City has undertaken several significant planning efforts since the last periodic update (such as the Transit Oriented Development (TOD) Framework, the South Logan TOD Plan, Division Street TOD Plan, Land Quantity Analysis and ongoing Housing Capacity Analysis, among others), and we look forward to supporting the City as they integrate these efforts into PlanSpokane 2046. Spokane Transit supports exploring a preferred alternative that is aimed at sustainable growth with a focus on improving mobility.
Growing jobs and households in neighborhood centers, especially downtown Spokane, is complimented and enabled by providing residents with a variety of options when it comes to moving around the City. Those residents and employees who walk, cycle, or utilize fixed-route bus service will benefit from a growth alternative that focuses on increasing residential development and economic growth along the high-frequency and high-performance transit lines identified in Spokane Transit's Comprehensive Plan—Connect Spokane.
STA will always have a strong presence in downtown Spokane, and the transit initiatives in our ten-year strategic plan, Connect 2035, will support additional growth in the Division and Wellesley corridors. The investments we are making in transit will work well in advancing the goals of either alternative 2, alternative 3, and especially a hybrid version of those two approaches.
Spokane Transit looks forward to working with the City of Spokane in 2026 to identify how the City, together with transit, will grow and thrive over the next twenty years.
