The Backyard Pub, and the Made with Love bakery space have created walkable commercial parts to the old part of west central. Kendall Yards has contributed to that walkable aspect of West Central. I can walk through the neighborhood of single family homes, duplexes, triplexes, fourplexes, townhomes, and smaller apartment projects to visit commercial businesses either on sidewalks, the bike pathways, or on the centennial trail.

I am in favor of the entire West Central neighborhood West of Maple, south of Maxwell, and bordered by the Spokane river being zoned a new "neighborhood mixed use zone classification". One of my New Love Coffee shops is in Liberty Lake in a "neighborhood mixed use zone classification" and it is profound the success and sense of community that location has. I can not speak more highly of "neighborhood mixed use zone classification" as a business owner.

West Central should never have the zoning updated to allow 4 or 5 story buildings or high density. The recent 5 story buildings on Maxwell do not fit the neighborhood feel of the west end of West Central. More of those would not help the neighborhood. Large 4+ story buildings should be put on the North Bank or on other non-neighborhood parts of Spokane. The West half of West Central should never be allowed to be zoned High Density Residential. It would be shocking and disruptive to neighbors and residents of West Central is this happened.

West Central is a neighborhood. It is currently walkable with room for improvement. The continued hopes and dreams of the residents of West Central (of which I have been one for almost 20 years), is that we stay a walkable neighborhood with the whole neighborhood zoned as a neighborhood mixed use to allow for a variety of mixed middle housing and neighborhood commercial uses. We do not want commercial or residential buildings that are 4 stories or higher. We are a neighborhood, not a Center & Corridor or place to be zoned HDR to have large buildings of any kind built in. Allow us to have our hopes and dreams as a walkable neighborhood to be realized with support from zoning rather than hindered and complicated by zoning use that does not match the historic or hoped for identity of our neighborhood.
