I am writing as a concerned citizen and property owner of three lots, one of which includes our residence near Underhill Park. It was brought to my attention that you are meeting today to discuss the potential environmental impacts of expedited construction projects on our natural environment and the residents living nearby.
We have witnessed firsthand the destruction of over 80 trees in our neighborhood due to the Underhill Estates project, which began approximately three years ago. Our area once supported deer, porcupines, skunks, and other wildlife that called our backyard home. Now, we are left with only about 40 displaced turkeys.
The noise pollution, construction debris, and increased traffic from fast-moving trucks have significantly impacted not only human residents but also the local animal and plant life. These changes have altered the character and livability of our neighborhood.
I urge you to carefully consider these factors in your future planning and permitting decisions. The current proposal to reduce environmental review in order to accelerate housing development may do little, if anything, to protect the remaining natural areas and tree canopy in our neighborhood.
Please help preserve what remains of our local environment.
